LEAK Test
Do you need to ensure the absolute airtightness of your rigid packaging? At Oxipack, we have developed a range of advanced non-destructieve leak testers specifically designed for testing rigid packaging containing air or inert gas. Our detectors are meticulously engineered to embrace the unique shape of each packaging type, allowing for a precise and accurate rigid packaging leak test.
Rigid packaging leak testers
We understand that different packaging types require tailored solutions to achieve optimal results.That’s why we have developed a variety of rigid packaging leak test machines that closely conform to the shape of the packaging as closely as possible. Our specialized leak testers offer a comprehensive solution for various rigid containers, including Nespresso coffee cups, coffee pads, medicines, meal trays, cans of milk powder, meat, fish, thermoformed packages with nuts, and many more. Each leak tester is equiped with a specially made insert mould or rubber membrane that perfectly match the form of the packaging being tested. In the Can Leak Tester, a machine specially developed for various types and sizes of cans, a rubber membrane is used to detect leaks in metal cans and paper-based cans. The same applies to the Tubs Leak Tester, which is specially designed for infant nutrition tubs. For testing trays containing nuts, we use the Stationary Leak Tester M, which requires a specially designed insert mould to detect leaks in the packaging. Paper based rigid packaging can also be tested in our various solutions.
Rigid packaging leak test machines features
Important features of our rigid packaging leak test machines incude:
- Suitable for sample testing;
- Designed to test rigid packaging that contains air or inert gas (MAP);
- The measurement chamber can be precisely customized using various moulds and/or membranes to accommodate a variety of packaging types;
- The robust design of our leak testers make it ideally suited for testing in industrial environments;
- It generates a pressure difference of 700 mbar within thirty seconds, enabling the detection of leaks as smal as 10 µm;
- User friendly and simple operation: a green light indicates that the packaging is approved, while a red light indicates the precense of a leak;
- Non-destructive leak testing;
- Testing according to the vacuum decay method (ASTM F2338).
CAN LEAK TESTER
For applications involving, for example, cans of powdered milk, a special Can Leak Tester has been developed with a rubber membrane. This membrane mirrors the form of the can. The Can Leak Tester also uses pressure differences to test for leaks. With this model, a bell jar containing a flexible rubber membrane in the same form as the can drops down over the packaging. A vacuum is then created in the surrounding space. If the can has a leak, this is shown by a change in the pressure of the measuring bell jar.
STATIONARY LEAK TESTER M
The Oxipack Stationary Leak Testers M is the solution for testing products with rigid shapes such as trays filled with nuts. A custom-made mold is created in the exact shape of your packaging. The SLT M is testing according to the vacuum decay method.
Stationary Leak Tester XS
The Stationary Leak Tester XS is the smaller version of the M and is intended for testing coffee cups for leaks, for example. A mold is made in the exact shape of your package(s). The SLT XS is testing according to the vacuum decay method.
Multi Leak Tester
The Multi Leak Tester is the solution for testing pods, capsules, jars, bottles, vials, and cups. The tester is pre-formed to match the exact shape of your packaging, embracing the pack and protecting its content. The MLT is testing according to the non-destructive vacuum decay method.
TUBS LEAK TESTER
The Oxipack Tubs Tester is specially designed to detect leaks in plastic tubs. This leak tester can easily be converted to test different sizes. The video below shows how this is done for infant nutrition tubs.
TAILORED MODELS
Our made-to-measure moulds along with the Stationary Leak Tester XS and M, ensure that we can test (nearly) everything that has a fixed form. When you have a product with a custom design, we can develop a leak detection solution. Oxipack designs and realizes a leak detection solution by matching various components of the machine to the exact form of your packaging. For example, we have designed this trailor made in-line machine especially for cartridges.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which types of rigid packaging can be tested?
How do I test rigid packaging for leaks?
We have developed different leak testers for various types of packaging. All leak testers for rigid packaging test non-destructively using the vacuum decay method. The operation of the leak testers is simple, with a green light indicating that the packaging is sound (approved) and a red light indicating the presence of a leak. The leak testers also come with tailored molds that precisely fit the form of the rigid packaging, reducing the area to be measured and ensuring accurate testing.
What types of leak testers have been developed for rigid packaging?
For shape-retaining packaging such as trays, cups, and capsules, the Stationary Leak Tester XS or M is used to test for leaks. For cans, we use the Can Leak Tester, and for bottles, the Bottle Leak Tester. In the case of a milk powder manufacturer who wanted a leak tester for their tubs, the Tubs Leak Tester was developed. This is an example of how we are able to develop a leak tester for virtually any rigid-shaped packaging. Contact us to inquire about the possibilities at sales@myoxipack.oxipack.com.
What sizes of rigid packaging can I test?
What type of packaging would you like to test? From coffee capsules to large square blocks, we either have or we create a leak tester for your leak detection requirements. There are standard can and capsule sizes, but we supply custom made solutions for almost any product.
Is the leak tester suitable for pharma or high care?
Yes! Our engineers from the Projects Team will gladly help to make sure all requirements are met. Please discover the pharma industry.
What is the changeover time to a different size of packaging?
Between 10 seconds (tubs tester) and less than 5 minutes (can leak tester), depending on the leak tester.
What is the lifetime of the membranes?
The lifetime of the membrane is about one year, depending on the frequency of use.
Can you tell me more about data integrity?
The data output of your leak tester is safe. All data will be stored on the tester itself for 365 days and can be extracted through USB or ethernet connection. Expansion packs are available like: OPC-UA, barcode scanner and printer.
