Experiencing product loss, safety problems, harm to your company's reputation, production delays or other problems with your bottle packaging? These issues can have a significant impact on your company. Implementing effective quality control methods, such as using a Bottle Leak Tester, can help mitigate these risks and ensure the production of high-quality products.

Bottle leak testing machines

Bottle leak testing is a process that involves checking the integrity of containers, bottles and caps by detecting any leaks or defects that may affect its performance or safety. A bottle leak tester is commonly used in the manufacturing and packaging industries to ensure that products such as beverages, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals are properly contained and sealed.

Oxipack developed different bottle leak testers to check the integrity of bottles and the top of bottles. All machines are testing in a non-destructive way according to the vacuum decay method (ASTM F2338). Using a non-destructive testing method has several advantages. Read all about the advantages in our white paper.

Bottle leak tester

The bottle leak tester is developed to check if the top of bottles, parts of bottles or the entire bottle is properly closed without spoiling its content. The standard BLT is a custom-made stand-alone machine where one bottle is checked at a time. When testing the entire bottle, an FDA approved membrane is used. For testing the top or parts of bottles, a measuring head lowers over the bottle.

The bottle is first placed into the specially designed product holder. A vacuum is applied and once the desired vacuum level is reached, the vacuum source is turned off, and the pressure is allowed to stabilize. The pressure is then monitored over a few seconds. If the pressure remains stable, it indicates that the bottle, or a part of the bottle, is leak tight. However, if the pressure begins to rise, it indicates that there is a leak in the bottle.

Multiple Bottle Leak Tester

Multiple bottle leak tester

The multiple bottle leak tester has the ability to test the entire bottle for leaks, as well, and to test up to 10 bottles at a time. We create product holders and FDA-approved membranes in the exact shape of your bottles.

After your bottles are placed in the machine, it works the same as the bottle leak tester. The measuring heads lower over the bottles and a vacuum is applied. Once the level is reached, the vacuum is turned off and the pressure stabilizes. If the pressure begins to rise, there is a leak in one of the bottles.

Container Closure Integrity Tester

For pharmaceutical bottles, the CCIT (Container Closure Integrity Testing) has been developed. This machine tests pharmaceutical bottles for leaks and defects. The test works the same, an insert is created in the exact form of the vial or ampoule bottle and after the bottle is placed in the machine, the FDA-approved membrane falls over the bottle. The pressure difference is measured after creating a vacuum in the system, from which it is determined whether a bottle has a leak or not.
