Vials for the vial leak detector

USE THE VIAL LEAK
TEST TO ENSURE
PRODUCT SAFETY

A vial leak test is a process used to detect and quantify leaks in vials, which are small containers used to store liquid or powder samples. This test is commonly used in the pharmaceutical industry with the purpose to quickly and accurately detect and quantify leaks in vials, thereby ensuring that they are suitable for use and safe for patients.

There are several methods that can be used to test vials for leaks, but one of the most common is the vacuum decay method. This method involves creating a vacuum inside the measuring room, that holds the vial and measuring the rate at which the vacuum decays. If the vacuum decay rate is high, it is an indication that the vial has a leak.

LEAK TESTER FOR VIALS

A leak tester is a device that is used to perform vial leak tests. The leak tester for vials can range from simple manual devices to more complex, automated systems. They typically consist of a vacuum pump, a pressure sensor, and a control system that is used to regulate the vacuum and measure the vacuum decay. The use of a leak tester enables manufacturers to quickly and efficiently test large numbers of vials, ensuring that only those that meet the required standards are used.

CONTAINER CLOSURE INTEGRITY TESTER

Oxipack developed a leak tester for vials, the Container Closure Integrity Tester. The CCIT is using the vacuum decay method to detect leaks. This method is a widely used and accepted method for testing the integrity of vials and other containers used in the pharmaceutical industry. A vial leak test is an important quality control step in the production of pharmaceuticals. It is important to ensure that the vials containing medication are free of leaks to prevent contamination and ensure the safety and effectiveness of the medication.

It’s also important to note that the vial leak test procedure and the method of the test is regulated by different worldwide pharmacopeias such as USP and EP. These standards also provide guidelines for acceptance criteria for the test, i.e. the maximum allowable leak rate or maximum allowable vacuum decay rate. This is important to ensure that the vials are safe for use and will maintain the integrity of the contained product.
