LEAK DETECTION
Cereals include many different products, because cereals are used to make various products. With cereal products, the freshness of the product is very important. When the products are no longer crispy, the quality has deteriorated. This happens when oxygen enters the packaging, which is why cereals packaging must be leak tight.
As a producer of cereal products, you must offer reliable, fresh and good quality products. But how do you guarantee this? Leak detection can be very helpful, because this will test whether your cereals packaging are leak tight.
Our leak detection solutions are testing in a non-destructive way, which means that your cereals stay undamaged and don’t have to be destroyed after testing. When no leak is found, your product can put back into the production line. With this way of testing, big savings are made on testing costs, products are less likely to be returned later in the chain, production waste reduces, water eliminates in the production environment and accurate and traceable measuring results are made.
TYPES OF CEREAL PACKAGING
Because of the different products that are made with cereals, different types of packaging are used. Cereals are lately increasingly packaged in sustainable and environmentally friendly packaging. The types of packaging are flexible, rigid and vacuum packaging. The vacuum decay method is used for testing flexible and rigid cereals packaging.
- Flexible packaging: Flexible cereal packaging includes pouches with muesli, pouches with cornflakes, muesli and other cereal bars. Also pasta is made of cereals and often packed in flexible packaging. Flexible cereal packaging can be normal pouches or resealable pouches.
- Rigid packaging: Cereals are also packed in rigid packaging, such as cans, tubs and other baskets filled with muesli, granola or other cereals.
- Vacuum packaging: Within cereal products, we are also talking about rice, risotto and coucous. These products are often packed in vacuum packaging. This ensures a longer shelf-life of the products.

STATIONARY LEAK TESTER (SLT)
Flexible or cereal packaging is tested in the Stationary Leak Tester. The pouch is placed between two flexible membranes. After closing the lid, a deep vacuum is created in the test chamber. This creates a very small measuring area without damaging the packaging. With this unique measuring method, you can detect both micro leaks and large leaks without having to change any settings

STATIONARY LEAK TESTER XS & M
Some rigid cereal packaging is tested in the Stationary Leak Tester XS & M, such as baskets filled with cereals. We create a custom-made insert in the exact form of your packaging. When the packaging is tested, it is placed between a flexible membrane and the insert, so there is only one membrane. After closing the lid, a deep vacuum is created in the test chamber. This creates a very small measuring area without damaging the packaging. With this unique measuring method, you can detect both micro leaks and large leaks without having to change any settings.

CAN LEAK TESTER (CLT)
The Can Leak Tester is a perfect solution for cans filles with cereals. We create a rubber membrane, which mirrors the form of the can. A bell jar containing the flexible rubber membrane, drops down over the packaging. A vacuum is then created in the surrounding space. If the can has a leak, this is shown by a change in the pressure in the measuring bell jar.

VACUUM LEAK TESTER
With vacuum-packed cereals, leaks are detected with the Vacuum Leak Tester. To test a vacuum cereal packaging, the space surrounding the packaging must be as small as possible. In order to do this, a custom membrane will be made to embrace the packaging and search for leaks. Testing different sizes or types of vacuum packaging? Just change the clock head.
