Just producing a high-quality product is not enough. When the packaging is not leak-tight, all the properties can simply dissolve when the product comes into contact with air. Or even worse; the product can get contaminated or contaminate the cardboard boxes used for packing and transport.
The Oxipack Centre of Expertise (CoE) was approached by a major wet wipes producer with a challenge. They were curious if we could help them test their packaging for leaks. These wet wipes consist of over 10% of moisture and to preserve all the properties, the packaging has to be closed perfectly. Leak packaging was shortening the total product life cycle. In addition, the customer wanted to limit the number of complaints coming from moist cardboard boxes due to leak packaging.
The process
The Centre of Expertise ran different tests with the received samples to understand the current leak size. Based on the leak rate found, Oxipack experts established the configuration for the leak test of the wet wipe packaging. The Stationary Leak Tester (SLT) was ready to be rented and help out!
The customer rented the leak tester for two weeks to perform additional tests and get to know our non-destructive leak way of testing.
At the end of the rental time, the customer was amazed by how much efficiency and accuracy our non-destructive leak tester brought to the operation. In addition, the customer was impressed by the simplicity and convenience of implementing the SLT in their existing production. They even used the rental time to demonstrate the leak tester to colleagues in other factories in an internal workshop.
After the successful rental weeks, the customer started a 2-month validation. Validation allows the customers to run trials for implementing the Oxipack leak tester.
Becoming an essential part of the quality packing process in their production systems to benefit from maximum efficiency in their operations. During the validation, the customer used the Oxipack Stationary Leak Tester and compared its performance to their existing leak testing method for their wet wipes packs. In the validation process, the operators familiarized themselves with the Stationary Leak Tester and quickly saw the benefits of the system; dry, clean, easy to operate, direct results, non-destructive and automated storage of the test results.
After the successful validation, there was an online meeting with Oxipack to discuss questions raised during validation and necessary maintenance activities. The final approval of the Global Quality Department has arrived and in the coming months, we will roll-out a small army of SLT’s in all the wet-wipes factories of this customer globally.
Thanks to the joint efforts of the customer and Oxipack, now millions of baby bottoms can be assured of the perfect care.
