The packaging leader of a plant-based meat company approached Oxipack for help on leak-testing their product portfolio. The customer didn’t have a way to test their products non-destructively and since their mission is to reduce environmental impact, this had become a priority. Different types of packaging were examined, and the starting point was their vacuum-packed minced meat.
The Centre of Expertise built a prototype to show leaks could be detected with a special method, and the project was put on hold for some months.
In the meantime, Oxipack continued to develop the leak testing method resulting in the Vacuum Sealed Leak Tester (VSLT). With this leak tester, specially developed for vacuum packed cheese and meat, leaks could be found easily. The next step is for the Centre of Expertise to visit the customer and perform on-site prototype tests on the fresh and frozen minced meat packaging to convince them this test method will help them to secure their package integrity and thus their product quality.
Thanks to the Centre or Expertise, the challenge isn’t nearly as impossible as it seemed.
