Sustainability, a commonly used term in the world and at Oxipack. Something we dwell upon more, and we think that’s a good thing. Even with coffee packaging, more and more people are thinking about it and more and more peaople are considering buying sustainable coffee packaging. It is becoming more significant in the customer’s choice of a purchase, but also from the perspective of businesses.
WHAT IS A SUSTAINABLE COFFEE PACKAGING?
Sustainable and eco friendly coffee packaging does not harm the environment. This involves the production of coffee packaging, its use and disposal. Coffee must be packaged to maintain its aromas, which is why the way coffee is packaged is significant. This packaging must ensure that oxygen cannot penetrate and that its quality is maintained.
PAPER-BASED COFFEE PACKAGING
For example, paper-based packaging is a common sustainable coffee packaging. But this is a very difficult packaging way, because paper isn’t directly leak-tight by itself. Yet the paper-based coffee packaging must be leak tight. Therefore, a lot of research goes into it to come up with a leak-proof paper-based packaging. Paper-based packaging is an example of a sustainable coffee packaging, of course there are many more eco friendly coffee packaging types.
DEVELOPING A SUSTAINABLE COFFEE PACKAGING
We can assume the research phase to a sustainable coffee packaging is important, long and sometimes costs intensive. How do we make this easier and faster? Oxipack developed the solution. The search for eco friendly coffee bags, which maintain the quality of the coffee and therefore is leak-tight, has several phases, because you don’t develop such packaging right away. In this quest, the Oxipack leak detection solutions are very useful, because any packaging you design can be tested in our leak detection machines.
How does this work? For example, you design an innovative coffee packaging for your new or existing coffee brand. When your first design is finished, use the leak detector to check how leaky your packaging is. Now that that is clear, work towards the next design. And so on. In this way, each stage you work more closely towards leak-proof sustainable coffee packaging.
